ISIS breaks European Security

After the recent attacks in Manchester there is no more ethics or rights to break, ISIS could have cross the line in which they don’t even care about the age of their victims. On the other hand, we have been looking to a security program in Europe that is not working and need to be change rapidly. But the real uncertainty is how much collaboration has been done by the states? And what is NATO working for? Europe’s security problem falls in the difference that live in their political beliefs. We are looking in the present to a breakable Europe that is losing security program options.

June 22nd, 2017 is a very sad date which will remember the whole world and more particularly England. Indeed, England was struck by a new terrorism attack in Manchester, the balance sheet of this attack 22 deaths and numerous wounded persons. It is the fifth time that England is a victim of these attacks, and only two months after London’s attack. That has provoked lots of reactions from the governments but also from the citizens. Indeed, from now on we can notice that there is a light intercultural split. Certain people point at the government’s decisions and at the set-up safety devices which are very too insufficient. Do these attacks create a wave of interrogation for the citizens are in safety and during how long this massacre goes to last?

Ariana Grande’s concert, idol of the children and adolescents, gathered Monday many of them and their parents, who come to accompany or to wait them at the end of the event that was supposedly one of the best night of their lives. Among those casualties and deaths, most of them were children and young adult.  The youngest one, a little girl had her life in front of her: Saffie Rose Roussos, only eight years old. Others aged of 15-29 years old, have also found the death. Per jihadist specialist David Thomson: “It is indeed possible that from the point of view of the IE, it is a weakness to show that the child has been spared”. This quote can be found during the attack that one of her suitors perpetrated in June 2016 for the murder of a couple and whose author hesitated to keep the child envious . So, we can conclude that targeting children are targets like others and can be an easy way to touch deeply the different cultures existing.

Despite these days, there are a lot of news justifying terrorists just because there are from an Islamic State. There are some terrorist who have European nationality and this is the case of Salman Abedi, the Manchester’s terrorist, who was born in Manchester. So obviously, he has the english nationality. Moreover, his parents were Libyan refugees who move to UK to be able to escape to the Gaddafi regime. It is thought that the family trips to Libya turn our terrorist into a person with a radical ideology.

To conclude with the security crisis in Europe as the political programs continue to be different and the policies do not mix them together, it will be easier every time to break the wellbeing of the citizens. This have been very influential to new political groups that has encourage people to fear and hate Muslims with discrimination. If we are going to fight for democracy and the freedom of the Europe’s society, global institutions like the UN and NATO should leader programs for union and stop the constant manipulation of companies that take advantage of the economic profit of war.

East African Community and European Union never ending ratification

With no agreement for the Economic Partnership between the European Union (EU) and the East African Community (EAC) in sight, the biggest question at this time is what is keeping the individual countries from finding common ground and if that could be expected soon.

Source: Global Risk Insights

The region-to-region comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with the European Union (EU) seems to be a controversial topic. Even if there is no media coverage on the European continent. The  goals are aimed to strengthen the relationship between the EU and the EAC and drive forward development. The EPA agreement is centered around the trade of goods.

The main objective is to achieve a duty-free and quota-free access to the EU market and to open the EAC market gradually. This means that an equivalent of 82.6% imports from the EU will be liberalized and there will be no changes on the import taxes for the next 25 years.

The EU has been trying to work on a ratification of the EPA since 2007. It seems most countries have a common opinion on the trade and are all ready to contribute to the increasing business relations in East Africa. The further points about economical, health and rural development will all be run with existing EU funds that do not affect the individual countries of the EU directly.

The countries of EAC have made attempts since 2007 to  gain access to the European market. Kenya and Rwanda succeeded first with the EPA consolidating their commercial position. On the other hand, it brought disadvantages. Kenya belongs to middle-income economies so it will be charged by higher taxes if the  EAC does not sign the EPA and it will influence Kenya’s economy negatively.

Tanzania is still considering the pros and cons of signing the deal by running a study first but there are two countries that oppose the request. Without a study Tanzania will not sign the trade deal with the EU,with one of its important European business partner being the United Kingdom. The EPA seems inconvenient after Brexit and the deal could damage relations with China Tanzania’s main Investor.

The EU imposed trade sanctions against Burundi that caused civil unrest and unwillingness to make a deal. The latest country be involved in the intergenerational process was  South Sudan.

Uganda is also preparing to sign however prefers to wait for all countries of the EAC. Permanent Secretary, ministry of Trade, Amb. Julius Onen, said: “We are not going to allow EPA to disfranchise EAC. What is happening now is that this issue (EPA) is being blown out of proportion by a group of people.” it is not the end of the world for the EAC region. “Uganda does not want to see a weakened EAC, this is why as a country we are trying to see that we are all pulling from the same direction.”

Regarding the signing of the trade treaty between the EU and the EAC, the UN think tank has warned the EAC not to sign the deal. This is because they have made studies to look up how the deal would favor the East African countries nonetheless this deal would not have a positive impact in the trade of this countries. “UNECA says the removal of taxes on capital goods from Europe will cause the EAC accumulated revenue losses of $1.15 billion per year.”

To conclude, several countries of the EAC are still examining the characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of the trade. Some of them,  disagree due to higher taxes and stronger competition from the EU, it is a complex agreement that will still be negotiated for several years.

Will this “new” friendship improve China´s economic situation?

The China’s president Xi Jinping arrived on 19th of October at Heathrow Airport in London for a four day visit to uphold their economic situation and to establish bilateral relations between China and the United Kingdom.
Source en.people. com

It is the first time the president of China is visiting Britain since 2005 when Hu Jintao, the previous Chinese head of state, attended the Britain. However, Hu Jintao visit was met with such strident strikes, that it seems he swore off from the UK. Nevertheless, the Xi Jinping seems to have broken the silence between both nations and is trying to affirm a friendship with the UK in order to benefit the China’s economy and growth.

As we all are aware China hold great power when it comes to economy and trading business. This being said, it does not mean that China has not met its’ own downfall. According to BBC news, China’s economic growth has slowed down to 6.9 %. This evidently explains why on the 21st of October China signed multi-billion pound business deal with Britain.

Indicating the China’s need for establishing new connections because through such action their own population will uphold its’ power and even enhance it. And, of course, improve their statistics and lead them on reaching their own announced target.
It goes without the saying that the Britain’s representatives are not aware of this. Even the Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond stated that ‘’ it’s very much in our national interest to engage with China but we do so with our eyes wide open,” and that they are planning on‘’ developing a mature relationship with the Chinese and that they know that we are looking not just to China but to many other countries for infrastructure investment in the UK.’

Furthermore, others experts from Chinese government said that China will grow 6.9 %this year even if it will have it´s own ´´ups and downs´´. The reason why is this happening is that some companies and individuals have failed investing in China´s economy, the Shanghai Securities News reported.

To achieve these aims, China and Britain is following a specific schedule:

First Nuclear Plant After Fukushima

Plan of the nucklear plant

The 17th October 2013, Great Britain government accepted to construct a nuclear plant in the South West Somerset, which is called Hinkley C.  It will be the first nuclear plant after the disaster in Japan Fukushima.  The last nuclear plant in Great Britain was constructed in 1995.

The U.K electricity president Ed Davey  thought that if China, Korea and Japan makes a big investment, the U.K electricity problem will be solved.  This Project will be directed by the French electric enterprice “Électricite de France” (EDF) and a Chinese association “Chinese Nuclear Power Group”  (CGN) who will be participate 40%.  According to this project the relations between China and UK is going to get stronger.  According to this agreement in the future, China will have the possibility to get much more share in the U.K nuclear plants.

Because of the slowly construction of the new nuclear plant, David Cameron indicated that “in 2014-15 there will be big problems in Great Britain’s electricity” however the nuclear plant will start produce energy in 2023. David Cameron said that “this nuclear plant will give 25.000 employments possibilities”.  In addition, Électricite de France (EDF) specifies that the cost will be approximately 16.000 million pounds.

In Europe, Germany decided to place out the nuclear power, meanwhile, France has promised to reduce atomic energy 50% from the electricity generation. The government of Britain and the principal parties are supporting this nuclear energy as much as the population relative to other countries in the region.

The important fact about this whole project is the main risks of the construction of the nuclear plant. First of all, the consortium will have to carry on with the deal of building both reactors at its own risk, also they will have to guarantee a minimum and balanced price for the power generated for the proposed plant in Somerset.

Secondly, government will have to face the criticism about freezing the price of the power for the energy generated by the plant and maintain for the following years.

Last but not least, direct market support for a new nuclear plant is incomparable in Europe since liberalization started two decades ago and Britain will be the first country to seek consent from European Commission’s competition department for this.

Taking everything in to conclusion this new project will create advantages for the economics, relations and developments in U.K taking some risks as well but, “no pain no gain”.

London 2012: Sport, economic crisis and missiles on residential flats.

Two months left to the beginning of the 2012 London Olympic Games. England’s capital is ready to receive the thousands of athlets and millions of tourists who will enjoy with the Olympic Games. The biggest miltary deployment since World War II will ensure their safety and the citizens. However do the citizens of London, want to convert their city into an Olympic city? Are the Olympic Games appropiate in this moment of a huge global economic crisis? How does this affect the daily lives of the people of London?

It is difficult to find the exact number, but it is estimated that the total cost of the Olympic Games could exceed 11 billion pounds. Only the construction of the Olympic stadium has exceeded 537 million pounds, wich makes it the most expensive stadium in the world. This year the Londoners have seen their taxes go up 20 pounds per citizen to finance the Games. Thousands of citizens are against the holding of the olimpyc games and remaind that they were not consulted and that Greece´s financial crisis started after the celebration of the Olympic Games in Athens 2004. Another concerns Londoners have is what is going to happen with the facilities when the Olympic Games have finished. Unfortunately the “madrileños” can understand the fears of  Londoners because Madrid has tried to be an Olympic City two consecutives times and not happy with their failure are competiting to be Olympic City for 2020.The citizens of Madrid are going to be paying for the ambitions of a Mayor for decades because the facilities that were built are now empty, deserted. Those constructions have not helped at all, only to put the city and the citizens in debt. They will pay the debt through added taxes. How it is it possible that the council with the most debt in Spain wants to be an Olympic City? Should not be the citizens who decided?

Security during the Olympics is an other factor wich furiates the citizens. The army is going to instal batteries of missiles on the roofs of family residences, there will be an aircraft carrier on the River Thames, 13, 500 soldiers will be deployed (a number higher than the British detachment in Afghanistan) will be among 30,000 and 50,000 troops adding policies, security officers and intelligence. All of this in times of austerity. The use of force has been authorized against uncomfortable protests towards the government such as “15M” or “Occupy Wall Street” movements and 300 new security cameras have been installed across London.Monitored citizens, citizens affected by road cutoffs and on public transport too, indiscriminate security controls, families with rockets on their roofs and citizens paying more taxes through the fault of the politician´s egos. While the city becomes poorer political and security companies get richer.

Strasbourg court approved the extradition of terrorists from Great Britain to U.S

Isidoro Arriola, Alejandra Rojo, Rafael López y Patricia Martínez.

The European Court of Human Rights that have his headquarters in the city of Strasbourg has accepted the demand for extradition to the U.S. of five suspected terrorists, including the imam Abu Hamza Al Mazri, one of the most radical Islamists in Great Britain that has denied any link to terrorism but is in custody in the UK for inciting violence and will be extradited to the United States, also is accused by the U.S of conspiring to take hostages in Yemen in 1998, and eleven more crimes. So the government the UK is entitled to this extradition according to the court.

Whole process of extradition is usually quite long and sometimes controversial, the English government wanted to ensure that the extradition will as soon as possible and to carry out adequate legal proceedings.

In this case the British court has denied prosecuting them, one of the most characteristic examples of this, is the case of one of the accused, Babar Ahmad, who is in prison since 2004, in August of the following year United States sought the extradition and the English government approved the application because is accused of inciting violence through an internet website for young Muslims to revolt against the West and to attack United States. Argues that although the crime was carried out in the British territory, U.S said that web site was actually in a company located in Connecticut, so, United States has jurisdiction in the case. Babar Ahmad obviously has denied links to Al Qaeda and last week he asked for be prosecuted by British justice.

United States in case they were found guilty, has to ensure appropriate treatment of the accused, especially one of the defendants in particular that need other treatment because he is suffering schizophrenia. The human rights tribunal has said it will in no way infringed the article 3 that deals with the prohibition of torture, inhuman treatment or degrading of the European convention of human rights, therefore their human rights not be violated in the case of convicted and will be locked up for life in a special prison in Florida.

Theresa May, the prime minister, said that she was already in contact with US authorities to deal with the extraditions soon as possible. The exchange will take place in three months; this is the period of time that the affected people have to take the case to the Strasbourg Court.

Three Month Race of Abu Qatada

London 2012 games are just round the corner and the US has raised repeated concerns about the security of the event. Americans are especially worried that the UK police have had to cut the numbers of police officers and other security forces available for the summer 2012. Particularly unsatisfying for Washington is the restriction of the scope of the anti-terrorism ‘stop and search’ forces.

Home secretary Mrs Theresa May and culture and sport secretary Mr Jeremy Hunt as well as the Prime Minister, take turns to chair security meetings about the Olympics, which are usually dominated by the latest US concerns and security questions. Moreover, they are aware that al-Qaeda or one of its affiliates might try to disrupt the Olympic Games with american team members being the obvious target. With these circumstances in mind, special attention is being paid to a resident of England who is number one on the deported list.

The Jordan-Palestinian Abu Qatada came to Britain in 1993 with his wife and  three children after being expelled from both Jordan and Kuwait for bombing plotting and supporting the invasion led by Saddam Hussein. However, all of the facts mentioned above did not result in him being turned away at the airport but, on the contrary, he was granted refugee status.

British officials did learn their lesson, when Abu Qataba, who was happily living on the  British tax payers’ subsidies, set up a one-man run spiritual advice centre for Islamist Warriors and preached from Finsbury Park mosque. The Daily Mail published the story of Qatada on 18th January saying:

‘ For what it is worth, a host of eminent Muslim theologians condemned practices which Qatada said were legitimate.’

Furthermore,  the case of Abu Qatada culminated in 2001 when Spanish police indicted him for raising money for an al-Qaeda cell in Madrid, while German police found his audio tapes in the flat used by 9/11 highjacker Mohammed Atta. He also influenced Richard Reid, the shoe bomber who attempted to destroy the American commercial flight and who is now serving life in the super maximum security prison in the United States.

At the present, Qatada is fighting to stay in Britain and has already successfully persuaded the European Human Right   Court in Strasbourg of his innocence, though European judges’ decision goes against the interests of the UK authorities, who are eager to extradite Abu Qatada to Jordan where he is facing a life sentence for involvement in terrorism. This desire currently is multiplied with London 2012 fast approaching. Abu Qatada was released from the UK jail under  strict bail conditions, he has also been electronically tagged and has various restrictions outside his house. However, the UK officials have only three months to show significant progress towards deporting Mr Qatada and obtaining evidence of his guilt in such a way that their legitimacy cannot be argued in the court, otherwise his bail conditions will be lifted and he might walk free.

Home secretary Mrs Theresa May flew to Jordan to seek an agreement over the deportation of Abu Qatada. In her statement earlier this month she said that both countries were committed to ensuring Abu Qatada faced justice and were pursuing all options in regard to his deportation. Currently British tax payers, who are paying for Qatada’s well-being, and the US security staff are preoccupied with whether or not one of worlds potentially most dangerous men will win the three month race for freedom.
